i LED watches use Light Emitting Diodes for the display & light up brightly in various colors. The most common being red, green, yellow, blue & white. Wrist watches using LEDs became popular in the 70's, but are less common today.
Because the LEDs require more power than a regular digital watch it's normal for all LED watches to require you to press a button to show the time. If the LEDs were constantly lit, the battery would run down quickly.
